DARYLL DOBSON - BIOGRAPHY

By the time Daryll Dobson had graduated from Old Westbury College NY in 1984, the effect of studying with Avant-Garde Multi-Instrumentalist Makanda Ken McIntyre, had set in motion, his own very unique Electric Avant-Garde Guitar Style. Daryll continued to perform in jazz/alternative clubs and record in the NYC area with his own groups and various projects including a tour with jazz legend Stanley Turrentine.

After compiling recordings from numerous sessions featuring L. Shankar, Kenny Kirkland, Kenwood Dennard, Tony “Thunder” Smith, Fernando Saunders, Bobby Thomas Jr., Delmar Brown, Ricky Sebastian & Prabuddha Phil Browne, his dream of his first solo LP “The Mind Electric” was only fully realized when he left NYC for Boca Raton, Florida. It was there that further interest in the project flourished with the contributions of New River Studios (Studio Mixing Time) and Veteran Producer Peter Yianilos (the man behind the 48 track NEVE System!)

Daryll’s next recording Studio 21, was produced by Daryll at his own “Studio 21” (1994). The studio was acoustically designed by Daryll and hosted numerous recording projects. The 1994 CD release: DARYLL DOBSON – STUDIO 21, actually hit the radio charts in the NAC format! It was originally released to publicize the MIDI programming capabilities of Daryll’s recording studio, but when the word got out about it, Radio stations responded in a big way!

His next recording HEALING INTENTIONS (1997) got back to the heavier Fusion -Progressive Rock approach, but got lost in the turbulence of an industry that was too busy closing distributors, record store chains and recording studios to even notice the release! DARYLL and one of Fusion’s greatest drummers, GERRY BROWN totally bashed it out! Daryll and Gerry camped out for over a year getting the grooves ready for this one! And Kenwood Dennard and Rael Wesley Grant showed up for another thunderous Daryll Dobson performance!. Daryll eventually closed the studio and label in 1998.

Now the self imposed exile has ended!
